Lutheran Homes of South Carolina hosts 1st Annual Wii Bowling Tournament

On Friday, May 2, 2008, Lowman Home will convert their Hoefler Gallery into a bowling alley as seven teams of active seniors from across the state don their wrist straps and use their remote controllers in a frame-by-frame virtual battle to win the coveted honor of 'Wii Bowling Champions.'  The seven teams represent residents  from the full service retirement communities of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina-Franke at Seaside (Mt. Pleasant), Lowman Home (White Rock), Rice Home (Columbia), RoseCrest (Inman), and Trinity Lutheran Home (Aiken).   With remote controls in hand, the senior bowlers will direct their own personalized Mii characters to mimic the actions of  rolling the bowling ball down the virtual lanes  to play against their fellow retirees in a three-match elimination tournament. New BeWell Program Manager to Implement Wellness Initiative for

100% Restraint Free: Franke at Seaside, Keil Health Care Center
2006 (Mt. Pleasant, SC) When Cynthia Jordan, RN, became the director of nursing at Franke at Seaside Keil Health Care Center in February 2004, nearly 27% of the 44 skilled nursing center resident’s physicians ordered physical restraints. At this time, the average percent of nursing home residents with physical restraints was 9.3% in SC and 7.8% nationally.  It became Ms Jordan’s personal agenda to motivate her team to eliminate restraints and improve the quality of Franke residents’ life. Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Shares Second Award from the Duke Endowment 
December 21, 2005 (Irmo, SC) Trustees of The Duke Endowment awarded a grant of $291,576 to the Lutheran Wellspring Alliance of the Carolinas, a healthcare collaborative formed by Irmo based Lutheran Homes of South Carolina (LHSC) and Salisbury, NC based Lutheran Services for the Aging (LSA).  The grant will fund the second year of "WellSpring," a revolutionary healthcare initiative designed to improve the quality of care and the quality of life for residents in the Alliance's nine nursing centers across the Carolinas. Lutheran Homes Names Dr. Thomas E. Brown President and CEO
April 13, 2005 (Irmo) - Dr. Thomas E. Brown, Dr PH, MBA has been named president and CEO of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, Inc., a leading sponsor of continuing care retirement communities, and provider of licensed health care programs and hospice ministries in South Carolina.  Lutheran Homes is a ministry of the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Dr. Brown’s selection is the result of the coming retirement of The Rev. Dr. Boyd F. Cook, the first president and CEO of Lutheran Homes.  Dr. Cook served the organization for the past 18 years. Lutheran Homes Receives Duke Endowment Grant
December 16, 2004 (Irmo) The Lutheran Wellspring Alliance of the Carolinas, a partnership between Lutheran Services for the Aging of North Carolina and Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, has been awarded a $484,457 grant from the Duke Endowment. The grant will fund the Wellspring Program, a unique approach to improving care and quality of life for nursing home residents. The Endowment has also indicated its intent to award an additional $596,143 over the next two years. Read more . . .
